I was born, raised and employed in San Francisco, retired to Lake County in 1998. A guest speaker at a local garden club meeting first introduced me to gourds in 2000. Several years later I started experimenting with gourds and found this to be a medium which I have a great affinity with.
In June of 2005, I started a local gourd club that meets monthly and stays active in our community. You will find information on our club in the BV Gourd Club tab.
Today I grow many of my own gourds on our ranch in Witter Springs, Lake County. These gourds come in many shapes and sizes. At the end of the growing season the gourds are picked, then set out to dry slowly. When fully dry they can be cleaned and decorated, using a multitude of techniques. Virtually anything that can be done on wood or leather can be applied to a gourd. Wood burning, dyeing, carving, staining, painting, sewing, etc. The choices seem to be limitless. I sell my gourds at local shops.
